50 years ago today we were successful, and landed
men on the Moon 7 short years later...
men on the Moon 7 short years later...
We need to bring THAT drive and team effort back
to the USA!
to the USA!
Not only did we send men to the Moon scarcely 7 years later - the technology used catapulted us into today's age: calculators, personal computers, cellular telephones and much more.
When was the last time you used a slide rule or a pay phone? Or had to go to the library to research something, because the materials weren't available at home?
Thank the now-defunct and defunded Space Program.

They were true heroes. It is amazing what was accomplished in that decade.
ReplyDeleteOne of our numerous telephone books was delivered today. My 5 year old grandson looked at it and thought it was pretty important. I told him we were going to recycle it. He said I don't know. It looks important like a big newspaper. The next generation won't know what a newspaper is.
Agreed, on both counts.
DeleteWe need that kind of focus, again, as a nation.
I submit that the Space Program isn't defunct, it is just being privatized! Companies like SpaceX and VirginGalactic are going to do more in the next 20 years than NASA did in its whole existence.
ReplyDeleteThis is how it should be. Think where we would be with the airplane if the government were the only game in town - we'd all still be lying on canvas in the open.
No, the American way is to make money off it, and this time, space is going to pay. Companies will make a profit on space, and that will open opportunities that will make the Space Shuttle seem like a deuce coupe.
Personally, I'm glad I lived to see it.
I agree it should be. I hope the private sector has the will, initiative and dedication to see it through.
